umass camp on tuapaktushak creek august 1997

Here is the campsite at the mouth of Tuapaktushak Creek. Water in the creek here where it meets the Chukchi Sea is brackish. Fresh water is available about two kilometers up the creek. This photo was taken in mid August in 1996. Daytime temperatures were usually between 30° and 40°F with occasional light snow. Up here in the Arctic, Sunset occured after 10 pm in late August, and there were only a few hours of darkness.

From here you can:
Walk Northeast up beach to Skull Cliff.
Explore the tundra above the camp.
