|Athro, Limited Earth Science K-T Field Trip|
These are fossil soils (or paleosols) that overlie the K-T boundary in this area. The sediments in this region are prinaraly composed of paleosols like these developed in fine grained sediments and meandering bodies of crossbedded sand (such as the deposit at Moralis 1). What kind of a modern analog might represent the conditions of deposition of these sediments?
You are currently looking at the varigated beds which immedeately overly the K-T boundary in this area. These beds are numbered 4 on the section on the right. You may return to a view of the Iridium hill area, or click anywhere on the section at right to explore further.
